Many times when the weathermetric temperatures rise above the norm, one desires to wear garments that are not so restrictive or cumbersome. One solution to this age old conundrum would be what is known as the “walkshort”.
As it is commonly understood, the “walkshort” was invented by former Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame offensive lineman Joe DeLamielleure in 1972, when on a lark he decided to cut off his pinwhale corduroy trousers into what he called “short pants”, allowing for more comfort on a warm summer day. A photographer from the Buffalo Herald Tribune Times Daily snapped a shot of DeLamielleure in his “short pants” and the rest is history.
Here in 2012, Moonlight Graham has found the ultimate update to these short pants, with a new delivery from Union. The “Aloha” cargo short is a lightweight blend of 60% linen and 40% cotton, making them extremely soft & comfortable. They also have deep pockets, and lots of them. As my best buddy and frequent MG customer Steve Baldi said “they have pockets for all my *&%$.” I also dig the industrial strength buttons & zippers - none of those wimpy buttons that fly off on the second wearing.
The “walk shorts” are available @ MG Orange and online in khaki and olive, and three great madras plaids in nice colors. Best of all the shorts are only $69.50, a real value compared to what else we have seen out in the market.
While many folks will praise Joe DeLamielleure for his role as a pulling guard for the “Electric Company” 1970’s Buffalo Bills, we most cherish Joe for setting into motion a staple of modern fashion.
Many thanks to Randy Lewis of the LA Times for his great article on John & Exene today! Download of thew new record available here:
In 1959 Nancy & Walter Katin decided to take the canvas from their boat covers and make a pair of swim trunks out of them, and as they say the rest is history.
For the past 50+ years Katin has sold these American made beauties out of their store in Surfside, CA and select retailers, and Moonlight Graham of Orange is proud to add the line into the MG mix. “Quality, durability and good looks” has long been the Katin motto, and that fits right in with what we aim to provide for our pals who shop @ MG.
As the weather is now heating up & we ponder taking our shirts off, why leave your swim trunks to some sissy European company when you could go with an American classic for under $70?

Now that Moonlight Graham Records is off & running, clearly Moonlight Graham Films is next. Casting major summer release now, most of us want to go with Judy Landers.

“It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.”
Spring Training & Little League. For a few hours a day we can watch our kids or our team and not be buried in our worries about taxes, grades, mowing the lawn or our next cage match.
Yesterday we all watched two innings of the Astros vs. Mets spring training game. We had more jokes, commentary and insight than we would during any sitcom or news program currently on TV and those two teams will be lucky to win 100 games combined.
Play ball.

Football.
Just from our name, Moonlight Graham is obviously a baseball centric store when it comes to sports. I haven’t really paid attention to the NFL since Steve Young retired, and my only real thoughts on college football pertain to making fun of my brother-in-law for his undying allegiance to the train wreck that is UCLA.
We came across some cool old school retired player stuff from Red Jacket - Joe Green, Eric Dickerson, Johnny U., etc. and gave it a shot, and its done really well. The success of the product got me to at least give the NFL a passing glance this season, and with that you couldn’t avoid Tebow Mania.
What I find so funny is that the fans & media completely shred athletes for steroids or tattoos or cheating or bad hygiene or crooked teeth or shiny suits, yet here is a guy who is humble, straight as an arrow, and praises his teammates to a fault. I’m the farthest thing from a religious guy, but wouldn’t sports be better if everyone was like this dude? Team first and yes sir, no sir? I don’t really care about his passer rating, he’s managed to win games that no one thought he could win, and did it with integrity and as a great teammate both in college and the pros. Maybe it lasts one more week. Maybe it never happens again. But it sure seems like something we should want to see more of, right? Not tear him down because he’s a little too lovey dovey with Jesus? Isn’t he the antithesis of the douchebag he beat on Sunday? You know, “Big Ben” the most rapingest quarterback in the AFC?
As a guy who was named after Bart Starr, whats going on in Denver will make me once again pay a little more attention to the NFL.
